The Time my Brain Melted

In 9th grade I was enrolled in Regents Earth Science. We sat at black desks that you could write on with the grease of your hands and then it would disappear. Every Wednesday would be a lab day which meant instead of being 43 minutes the class would be twice as long. I do not like how my life used to be scheduled in to 43 increments of boredom.

Earth science was the worst class in the entire World. It is my hell. It is my Room 101.

I remember on one particular lab day, we hadn't gotten a break due to my lab partner who had thrown all the teacher's pencils in the ceiling, this was the day my brain melted. It was just the beginning of the second period so I knew relief in the form of art class was not coming anytime soon. On and on and on and I was just watching the clock when my mind stopped thinking completely. It literally stopped working and I had nothing but used thoughts and hope to get me through.

Now anytime I am ever really really super bored, I just think back to that day and know that soon it will be o.k. and I won't be bored anymore. I know that if I made it through that I can make it through anything boring for the rest of my life.

Beauty Segment

On most days I do not wash my hair. It is very fluffy when it is clean and straightening it takes forever.

Today's beauty segment is how to still look o.k. with unwashed hair. A few options:

1. Put a hat on.
2. Wear hair in a pony tail.
3. Go to a dark bar where everyone has had a couple of drinks.

I think tonight my hair is so dirty I have to do all three. Especially the last one.

Who would inspire me to restart my blog?

George Michael

I always thought this song was sang by a woman and then I watched the video. Whatastud.

Since I am blogging again I decided to make it more legit and learn more about today's post. This is the best thing I read about him on Wikipedia (where almost all of my research is conducted):

On December 5, 2009, in an interview with The Guardian, Michael explains he had cut back on cannabis and now smokes only 'seven or eight' spliffs per day instead of the 25 he used to smoke.

I really like his Club Tropicana song too.

fine arts and crafts and more

This week PK and I began our Upstate New York Tour 2010.

We went to Buffalo and learned how to make fudge and saw a baby.

We went to Niagara Falls and ate ice cream and went on the Maid of the Mist.
Someone last night said "OH I bet it was so romantic. Niagara Falls is the most romantic place in the world"

Not when your with your boyfriend's parents.
Not when your wearing a XXL Poncho.

The tour continued. Yesterday we went to Watkins Glen and drove across the state.

Watkins Glen was awesome awesome awesome.

I tried to steal a lighter from a gas station but the attendant said that wasn't ok.
I tried to tell Phil all oldies music sounded the same he told me to "take it back"

I learned how much I hate windmills.

Today we were going to go to storm king but its a little bit expensive and so we are going to make our own sculptures in the front yard.

So now we are back in New Paltz. Tomorrow is the Disco Ball

and then next week the tour continues in Albany

Time to go prepare for sculpture making (this means make an afternoon cocktail)

Dear AZ

Dear Anthony Z.,

Are you really done with your freshman year? The last time I saw you was a little bit strange. Your friend was nice but she kept telling Phil to play Ben Folds Five.

Also I like your profile picture.

Also I have nice thoughts when I think about you visiting me in Brooklyn. You and Gracie and me can go to the park and I can show you the hula hoop tricks I am not that good at.

You can talk about how trendy you are.

Love,

Annie

P.S. love your profile picture.

Thoughts on pie, animal noises & pineapple gardens

1. Tonight I ate two pieces of a pie no one else is eating (it is slightly discolored but only 2 days old).

regret pie.
oops pie.

is this too much information?

2. Lately I have been thinking that it is really cute to draw animals with non-corresponding animal noises.

Activity: Draw a:
Bunny that roars
or a goat that arfs
or an elephant that meows.

3. I have been harvesting pineapples in the front yard, I know that we do not live in pineapple heaven and that the climate may not be appropriate for this fruit, but I have hope and 4 pineapple tops. Today I came home an uprooted garden. The property manager had come! He removed my garden.

As soon as I ensure that this will not happen again I will post a picture of my replanted garden within the next couple days.

4. Thanks to Matty I know that this is how a pineapple grows. Wild!

Part I of: ANH Math Program for American Girls - Recognizing a Problem

At first I realized that American children are under performing in math skills as represented in the graph below:

This is especially an issue because obesity is also becoming a major issue in American society and being unattractive and not good at math?

Not great America, not great.

The problem continues for my gender as there is a gap between the math literacy skills of American boys and American girls:

Now, I would love to tell you more about what this means, but unfortunately, as an American Girl, I am having difficulty determining exactly what the y-axis in the second graph means.

So I thought to myself:

Something must be done about this!

And so I began the Annie North Hennessy Math Program for American Girls which will be fully explained in Part II of this post.

Bacon Clock

I used to have an alarm clock radio. Now I just use a cell phone.

I do not know why.

I honestly think hearing that ring over and over every morning is contributing to my insanity.

I usually wake up before it but never turn it off.

Even better than the clock radio I should get this:

Smelling bacon is the only way to wake up properly.

Brooklyn Bound! Time to look for a new job

Things I am proud of that I can't put on my Resume
1. That I can almost play "I Will Survive" on the piano
2. My ability to walk in high heels.
3. That I can make a hat out of almost anything by putting it on my head.
4. Knowing over half of the words to Juicy by Biggie.

overcoming my fears

Here is a list of things I was scared of two years ago.
1. Math
2. Dinosaurs
3. Bears
4. Computers

Here is a modified list of reasons why I am no longer scared of each of the above-mentioned.

1. Math- I realized that math just looks scary, the jokes don't help...seven eight nine. wait what? Now that I know the little math tricks I can square root 4 digit numbers in my head. I have also created a foundation-- The Annie North Hennessy Math Program for American Girls (which will be discussed in a future blog post).

2. Dinosaurs.
Velociraptors were actually only the size of turkeys. Best exemplified by this chart I have found online:
Turkeys are not scary! Therefore using my new math skills I can transitive property this. Velociraptor= Dinosaur Velociraptor= Turkey THEREFORE Dinosaur= Turkey Turkey= Not Scary THEREFORE Dinosaur= Not Scary.
I love math.

3. Bears. Once you learn you can call anything a bear they are no longer scary! Plus if you put bear after any word it automatically sounds cute.

Activity:
1. Look around the room and choose an object.
2. Say the object out loud and than say bear.
For examples:
Lamp bear.
Chair bear.
Folder bear.
Phil Bear!!!
Now you try- ___________________ Bear.
4. Computers. Snowbear sent me these great mp3s of their songs but I had no idea how to link it to blog spot. Normally this would be too intimidating for me to do, but it wasn't that hard.
I used to be scared!!! Now I am empowered!
update: ok so at least i tried to put up video. technology is not scary but its difficult!

Today you should practice less piano (your quiz is on wednesday) and eat more bananas.

A great weekend for Bears

Things I learned last night:
1. Solo scrabble is only fun for 15 minutes and then it is lonely.
2. My boyfriend's favorite meals are alliterative.
3. Carlo Rossi is only good with a lot of ice.

What I am looking forward to this power weekend:
1. Retirement of is it whiskey?
2. Playing destiny's child's hit bills bills bills on the juke box at snugs. again.
3. Pretending alcohol is a liquid time machine and setting the straw dial to 1977 & Snowbear on Saturday night.
4. Going to the german restaurant for Phil's birthday and eating spaetzle, sauebratin and saoekraut while drinking spezial.

Becoming a Jock.

Phil and I run now (well, jog). We are entering a 5k on May 6th in New Paltz.

Why?

1. After the run there is a free hot dog and refreshments party for participants.

2. We have discovered that running is nice, but being seen running is even better.

3. We might get t-shirts. Jocks always have a lot of t-shirts from the events they have participated in. I have a couple from cheerleading, but between the two of us that is all we have, so the 5k will be our first opportunity to build the collection.

Miami Sound Machine

Dear Ms. Estefan,

I am sorry I spelt your name incorrectly on my April 8, 2010 post. I am sorry I have been saying you name wrong since I saw you as a guest on the Rosie O'Donnell Show in 1994. I just always thought it was Esteban

Please except my heartfelt apology and let me make it up to you by posting your website on my wildly popular blog:

Gloria Estefan's Website!!!!!!

Tonight I will drink champagne to you and your continued success. Or maybe boxed wine, because I still have some of that left over from the weekend.

My best,

Annie North Hennessy

A memory.

So I found a really funny website today comparing pie and cake.

Later in the day I received this e-mail:
12:56 p.m.
Dear Annie,
That chart with the swiftly declining line after the amount of cake eaten reminds me of that time you ate so much cake then looked really pale and sick and then we went drinking.
Love,
Gracie
